Elizabeth May announced Monday that she will keep her position as Green Party leader despite being tempted to step down after her party passed a controversial resolution supporting a movement boycotting Israel. The resolution, passed at the party convention earlier this month, supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement. The decision was quickly denounced by some Jewish groups and it also caused fierce debate inside the Green Party. We’ve never done that before.”May, the MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands, has been Green Party leader since 2006, and became the party’s first elected MP in 2011. But she hasn’t been able to expand the party’s foothold in Parliament, and the Green vote share has decreased in each of the last two elections.
