Elephant electrocuted in Jharkhand

A full grown tusker today died when it came in contact with a high tension live wire at Haildajuri village in East Singhbhum district, Forest officials said. A herd of wild elephants were passing through under-construction canal when a tall pachyderm came in contact with a live high tension live wire and was electrocuted, said Divisional Forest Officer (Dalbhum), S Alam Ansari said. Owing to dumping at the construction site, Ansari said the gap between the ground and high tension wire shortened, which led to the incident. Following the post-mortem, he said forest department officials followed all standard operation procedure before the pachyderm was buried.
