New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that 23,398 new private electric cars were licensed in 2025, up from 17,191 in 2024. Across the market as a whole, new private car registrations increased by 4pc in 2025, indicating steady demand over the period despite a decline in the last quarter. Among electric models, the Tesla Model 3 was the most licensed electric car in December, followed by the Model Y.
