Photo: GettyElectric car registrations rose by 36pc in Ireland in 2025, which meant that almost one in five new cars sold last year was fully electric. New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that 23,398 new private electric cars were licensed in 2025, up from 17,191 in 2024. Across the market as a whole, new private car registrations increased by 4pc in 2025, indicating steady demand over the period despite a decline in the last quarter. Among electric models, the Tesla Model 3 was the most licensed electric car in December, followed by the Model Y.
