Share:On Tuesday, it was reported that the government and the opposition have agreed on the formation of a parliamentary panel on electoral reforms. Following speculation that a meeting had taken place between the two sides which several opposition leaders had denied, this is certainly a positive development. The spat between members of the ruling party and ECP and opposition members had devolved into an unsavoury spectacle with personal attacks taking centre stage. It remains to be seen however if the committee will start work on electoral reforms from scratch or will just deliberate over the two bills that raised controversy. However, the formation of this committee is encouraging as the implementation of such technologies on a mass level requires a lot of planning and deliberation.
