EDITORIAL: Jacinda Ardern showed the right combination of flexibility and backbone by moving the election date a month back. NZ First, National and Act had called for a delay to the September 19 election following the campaign disruption caused by the Covid-19 resurgence, and the compressed time for election campaigning. Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters, for a while there, was threatening to withdraw confidence over the issue. The delay does of course mean the Government's Covid-19 response is being put to the test for longer than initially planned.
