US government investigators wiretapped Paul Manafort, the former head of the Trump presidential campaign, before and after the US election, it was claimed last night. The surveillance continued into the early months of this year, according to CNN, suggesting that investigators were monitoring Mr Manafort’s communications during a period when he is thought to have been speaking to President Trump. The surveillance allegedly became part of the inquiry into whether the Trump campaign co-ordinated with the Russian government. According to CNN, Mr Manafort was the target of a so-called Fisa surveillance warrant, issued by a court that works in secret and which oversees the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
