Election campaign kicks off, six candidates gunning for every seat on averageThe Election Commission has assigned electoral symbols to 1,841 candidates for the 300 parliamentary constituencies, which means more than six candidates are running for each seat on an average. Candidates began campaigning for the Dec 30 election after the returning officers allocated the logos on Monday. The returning officers allocated the symbols after scrutiny and appeal hearings. Out of the candidates who have assigned symbols, 1,745 belong to the political parties while the 96 others are independent. Senior officials of the law-enforcing agencies and the army along with the returning officers and top officials of the local police and administration will attend the meeting.
