Election campaign ends in Tripura


In accordance with the model code of conduct set in effect by the Election Commission of India (ECI), all political parties in Tripura hectically campaigned right up until the 4pm deadline on Friday, ahead of the election for the state’s legislative assembly slated for February 18. In the election, political parties will be vying for the support of a total 2,573,413 voters in the state, 47,803 of who are newly registered. In addition, 30,000 paramilitary troops have been deployed to maintain law and order across the Indian state during the election. The troops will be assisted by the Tripura State Police and State Rifles. Director General of police A K Shukla told reporters in Agartala: “Patrols along the Indo-Bangla borders in Tripura have been intensified by the BSF, to thwart any intrusion attempts.
