El Gendy grants Egypt first-ever Olympic medal in modern pentathlon


CAIRO-7 August 2021: Ahmed El Gendy achieved the silver medal in the Olympic men's modern pentathlon on Saturday to give Egypt the first ever medal in modern pentathlon and the first silver medal in Tokyo Olympic Games. El Gendy achieved 1,477 points, only five points behind Choong, who completed the double for the British team who also won the gold medal in women's competition. The 21-year-old became the fifth Egyptian athlete to have a medal around his neck at Tokyo Olympic Games but he is the first to achieve a silver medal. Also, El Gendy became the first Egyptian athlete to win an olympic medal in modern pentathlon, which became the 8th sport in Olympic Games to witness an Egyptian success. The Egyptian delegation in Tokyo will celebrate another success today as Egypt's Karateka will play for the gold medal in Kumite competition (+61kg category).
