Eight regions where coronavirus deaths on rise as North West worst hit

Data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that nearly one in 20 deaths in the North West is linked to the virus. And figures released this morning show that in eight of nine English regions, Covid-19 deaths increased in the week to September 25. Just the East Midlands saw a week-on-week fall in the number of coronavirus deaths, dropping from 14 to 11. "In Week 39, the number of deaths registered was 2.7% above the five-year average (257 deaths higher). "Of the deaths registered in Week 39, 215 mentioned 'novel coronavirus (COVID-19)', accounting for 2.2% of all deaths in England and Wales; this is an increase compared with Week 38 (76 deaths higher)."
