Police in southwestern Tibet arrested eight people on suspicion of illegally killing endangered animals, local police said today, Xinhua reports. Police received a report in mid-March that carcasses of Tibetan antelopes were found in the Gerze county of Ali prefecture, and local people requested an investigation. Local police nabbed eight suspects and seized 89 pieces of whole or fragmented Tibetan antelope skins. Tibetan antelopes are mostly found in Tibet, Qinghai province and Xinjiang. The species is under first-class state protection in China.
