Khehar was today given a warm farewell with several fellow Supreme Court judges, led by successor Justice Dipak Misra, former judges and sitting high court judges present on the occasion. Speaking at the event organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association on behalf of the legal fraternity, attorney-general K.K. Suri, vice-president Ajit Sinha and secretary Gaurav Bhati commended Justice Khehar, stressing that despite his short tenure of less than eight months, he had brought about remarkable changes in the Supreme Court. Justice Khehar was elevated as CJI on January 4 this year after his predecessor Justice T.S. This system empowers the five senior-most judges of the Supreme Court, led by the CJI, to decide the appointments and transfers of Supreme Court and high court judges.
