Eight accused in case over explosives haul in Chittagong 'militant hideout'

Comilla Detective Branch Sub Inspector Shahidul Bashar filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Mirsharai police late on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, crude bombs, explosives, machetes and bomb-making materials were found at a house in the Upazila town during a raid by the counter-terrorism unit and Comilla police. On Tuesday, two men hurled bombs at policemen who stopped a bus on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at Comilla's Chandina Upazila. Based on information given by them, the counter-terrorism unit later raided a two-storey building at Mirsharai Upazila. Chittagong's Superintendent of Police Nure Alam Mina said they suspect the others fled after the arrest of Mahmudul in Comilla the previous day.
