Panama-flagged Ever Given ship is pulled by giant tugboats to harbor in the Great Bitter Lakes in Ismailia- press photoCAIRO – 27 May 2021: Egyptian Lawyer Khaled Abu Bakr has joined the legal committee presenting the Suez Canal Authority in the case of the stranded Panama-flagged container ship EVER GIVEN. The decision of hiring Abu Bakar as a legal consultant was issued by Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Admiral Osama Rabie, on Thursday, announced the SCA Spokesperson George Safwat in a statement. The Ismailia Economic Court did not reveal the reasons for its today’s rejection yet. Therefore, it referred this case to the Economic Court of First Instance to be considered on May 29, according to statements from the SCA on Sunday. The situation complicated when an economic court in Ismailia governorate issued on April 13, 2021 a decision to officially arrest the ship until paying compensation.
