One of the pilots tried to extinguish a fire on the EgyptAir plane that crashed into the Mediterranean in May killing all 66 people on board, investigators said yesterday. The news, also leaked by French investigators, reinforced earlier evidence from the flight data recorder and a satellite transmission that Flight 804 registered smoke on the flight deck… The cockpit sound recorder, retrieved from the seabed and repaired in France, showed that either Captain Mohamed Said Shoukair or Mohamed Mamdouh Ahmed Assem, the first officer, tried to put out a fire of unknown origin, sources on the Egyptian investigation committee said.
