Egypt welcomed and supported the US-Russian deal on a nationwide truce and ceasefire in afflicted Syria, which was agreed on Friday. Egypt called on all parties to adhere to the truce to achieve a permanent ceasefire in all Syrian cities. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire plan, about 24 civilians were killed on Saturday in airstrikes on the city of Idlib. Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zaid previously said in an interview that there should be a prompt solution to the current political turmoil in Syria. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, tens of thousands of Syrians are missing, detained, and killed each year amid severe political turmoil.
