Egypt to convert the largest government building in Cairo into a luxury hotel

The Egyptian government aims to develop the Tahrir Complex in order to benefit from it on several levels in the heart of the capital, Cairo. According to Oxford Capital Group, a member of the winning consortium, the development plan will change the name of the Tahrir complex to “Cairo House”, turning it into a luxury hotel and a mixed-use complex. Designed by Chicago-based architect RATIO | smdp, the CairoHouse will include more than 450 luxury hotel rooms and serviced apartments, and numerous world-class dining and entertainment venues. It will also feature a large meeting and event space of 85,000 square feet, including the largest rooftop venue in Cairo. The entire project represents more than US$ 200 million to invest in the repurposing of one of the most emblematic government buildings in downtown Cairo in Egypt and the Middle East.
