Egypt opens first shelter for victims of human trafficking in Qalyubia


CAIRO – 14 November 2020: Egypt has opened the first shelter for victims of human trafficking in Al Qalyubia Governorate. The National Council for Women headed by Dr. Maya Morsi praised the opening of the shelter, affirming that Egypt has taken strenuous efforts to undermine human trafficking crimes, according to a statement issued by the NCW on Wednesday. “Human trafficking is a global crime and the council is one of the concerned parties in the National Coordinating Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration that has made great efforts over the past years,” Said Morsi. She continued that child marriage is one of the most common crimes of human trafficking as about111,000 girls aged between 13 and 17 are forced to marry annually in Egypt. Morsi added that such shelters aim at help the victims reintegrate in society after their bitter experiences, noting that the council receives the complaints about human trafficking crimes on hotline 15115.
