CAIRO - 8 December 2022: Head of the Nursing Syndicate and member of the Senate Kawthar Mahmoud revealed that the Egyptian nursing staff consists of 300,000 nurses, including 220,000 members in the government sector in 5,000 health facilities nationwide. In comments to Hadith al-Kahyra talk show Mahmoud stated that the sector is witnessing a severe deficit in the nursing staff, adding that the syndicate is monitoring all the assaults against its members by some patients’ relatives. Mahmoud's comments followed an incident that went viral on social media the past week, where the relatives of a female patient attacked the nursing staff at the Quwisna Central Hospital in Menoufia. The attack resulted in injuring four nurses and other working staff members. A pregnant nurse had a miscarriage due to the assault.
