Egypt, Portugal may sign maritime transport deal

CAIRO – 7 June 2022: Portuguese Secretary of the State for Maritime Affairs Jose Maria Costa and Egypt's Ambassador to Lisbon Wael al-Nagar agreed on finalizing the maritime transport deal between both countries as soon as possible in order to boost bilateral trade. The embassy's press statement added that the minister and the diplomat further discussed bolstering cooperation in the sector of blue economy, particularly the fields of energy, fisheries, fishing, and maritime transport. The Egyptian ambassador organized a meeting at the embassy headquarters in April for the representatives of 16 Portuguese tour operators, and the chairman of Air Cairo airline. The meeting touched on the possibility of re-operating a direct flight route between Egypt and Portugal and the best time during the year for its launch. The two sides also discussed Egypt’s most favorable destinations for Portuguese tourists.
