Data from the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) shows large subsidies were paid to several egg producers, despite supermarket sales figures showing a surge in demand. Sales figures from data analytics and research company IRI show supermarket demand for the brands increased significantly during lockdown. supplied Michael Brooks, executive director of the Egg Producers Federation, says those who accessed the wage subsidy scheme made an independent commercial decision to do so.
