Effluent that has been expelled into a Southland stream is under investigation by Environment Southland. The Winton Stream in the Benmore area had a significant volume of effluent discharged into it, an Environment Southland spokewoman said. “Winton residents can be assured that their water supply is not affected by this and their water is safe to drink,” Mr Sarfaiti said. Owners of dogs should ensure that their pets do not drink or enter the stream water until Environment Southland have given the all clear, he said. This was expected to be at point next week, Mr Sarfaiti said.
