Toronto Blue Jays designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion was suspended for one game by Major League Baseball on Sunday and fined an undisclosed amount for making contact with an umpire. Encarnacion's suspension was scheduled to be served Sunday as the Blue Jays concluded their four-game series with Cleveland. Encarnacion bumped home plate umpire Vic Carapazza in the first inning of Friday's 2-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians when arguing balls and strikes. However, Encarnacion has elected to appeal, which allows him to appear in games until the review process is complete. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons was also ejected from the game for the same incident, while catcher Russell Martin was kicked out later in the game for arguing with Carapazza.
