Educational institution seeks removal of electricity tower from campus

more-inThe Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) to examine and submit a report whether it is technically practical and feasible to shift a high tension electricity tower erected in the land belonging to an educational institution at Rajanakunte near Yelahanka. Justice Vineet Kothari passed the interim order on a petition filed by Karnataka Education Society, which has set up Presidency University on the land. The petitioner-society has claimed that as only one of the 25 towers, erected for a stretch of nine kilometres, is situated in its land, its plea for shifting can be considered keeping in mind human and public safety aspect as a large number of students are studying in the university’s campus. The CEA, after hearing all the concerned parties on November 19, will have to submit its report. Further hearing was adjourned till November 30.
