PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Education Ministry on Wednesday (Dec 26) said it was important to have a screening process to ensure six-year-olds were ready to start Standard One together with their peers. It said the screening process would also ensure that the children were mentally ready for school and possessed the necessary reading capabilities typical of a child six years and above. "These children should also have attended preschool or kindergarten and meet the prescribed criteria to enter Standard One," the ministry said. It added that parents of under-aged children could apply for entry to school by filling the PMA01 form available at the district or state education offices. The children would have to pass a simple writing module and brief interview before being offered a place in school.
