Ahead of Monday, January 13th resumption date of public schools in Edo State, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has given 18 motorbikes to the Local Government Education (LGEA) secretaries in the 18 local government areas of the state. Speaking at the ceremony yesterday in Benin, Dr. Joan Oviawe, the Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Basic Education explained that the initiative was part of the Edo Basic Education Transaction (EDOBEST) which aimed at national development and quality assurance. Oviawe told the education officers from the 18 local government areas that the motorbikes, which will be distributed to quality assurance officers in each of the local councils, was to help in mobility so that they can effectively monitor schools in their areas of jurisdiction. She said: “We are paying attention to quality assurance and not just the rhetoric of inspecting schools. She assured that the state government is determined to turn around the fortunes of basic education in the state by giving quality education to school children, the future leaders of the country.
