EDMONTON — Local police will be stripping off their uniforms before joining in the Edmonton Pride Parade. People celebrate at Edmonton Pride 2015. The move comes after Black Lives Matter protestors ground Toronto’s pride parade to a halt in 2016 as they made a list of demands, including banning uniformed officers from participating in the parade. Since then, according to the Edmonton Pride Festival Society, meetings with local police have focused on building bridges between the local LGBTQ community and officers. Jeremie Landry said their officers plan on attending the festivities wearing special RCMP Pride t-shirts.
