The Edmonton Police Service issued a press release Thursday stating McFee will address the community Friday morning as “part of a reconciliation process with members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Two-Spirit community.”EDMONTON–Police Chief Dale McFee will offer an apology to the city’s LGBTQ community Friday. Calgary police Chief Roger Chaffin formally apologized in summer 2018 for the service’s role in the marginalization of and discrimination against LGBTQ Calgarians, but Edmonton’s former chief Rod Knecht had declined to do the same. McFee was sworn in as EPS chief in February. The Edmonton Pride Festival banned uniformed officers from marching after a protest at last year’s event. In April, festival organizers announced this year’s event would be cancelled.
