Saying that taking NDTV India off the air is “a direct violation of the freedom of the media,” the Editors Guild of India issued a statement condemning the government’s actions. “The Editors Guild of India strongly condemns the unprecedented decision of the inter-ministerial committee of the Union Ministry of Information Broadcasting to take NDTV India off the air for a day and demands that the order be immediately rescinded,” said the statement. The Editors Guild of India calls for an immediate withdrawal of the ban order,” said the statement. The statement was signed by the president of the Editors Guild Raj Chengappa, general secretary Prakash Dube and treasurer Seema Mustafa. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had on Thursday, ordered NDTV India to go off air for a day in breach of the programme code governing content in news channels.
