Editorial-Exchange-HalifaxChronicleHerald, 1st WritethruHL:Editorial Exchange: Desmond death inquiry is vital (Halifax Chronicle Herald)An editorial from the Halifax Chronicle Herald, published Jan. 2:Desmond death inquiry is vitalIt took too long to make the right decision. But, in the end, Nova Scotia chief medical examiner Dr. Matt Bowes did the right thing last week in recommending an inquiry into the deaths of Lionel Desmond and his family last Jan. 3. Tomorrow, one year will have elapsed since this terrible tragedy struck the Desmond family and shook the entire province. Desmond had been diagnosed with PTSD and post-concussion disorder after completing two tours of duty in Afghanistan. Being neither arm’s length, nor public, nor comprehensive in terms of examining all the agencies Mr. Desmond dealt with, it has been of no use in helping us determine whether those lives could have been saved and how.
