The roll-out of the national bowel screening programme is a significant project, and one which some have strong opinions on. About 3000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year and more than 1200 die from it. Bowel screening can help detect cancer at an early stage when it can be more easily treated and often cured. Our focus is on delivering a high quality national screening programme which is safe and effective, and results in fewer New Zealanders losing their lives to bowel cancer.
