Edinburgh venues facing closure due to Scottish Budget

The Scottish Hospitality Group (SHG), which represents licensed hospitality businesses across Scotland, organised the event as part of its new national campaign, Don’t Destroy Scotland’s Hospitality, Stop the Rates Hike. The Scottish Hospitality Group spread their message across Edinburgh last night, parking up outside Scottish Parliament and Grassmarket. "When it was a bank, their rateable value was £36,000. "The consequences will be price rises, business closures and job losses, so we are urging this Scottish Government to take action to save our Scottish hospitality." Under current proposals, properties under £100,000 rateable value receive partial relief, but many small and medium sized Edinburgh venues exceed this threshold due to location and building type rather than profits.
