Edinburgh to be driverless vehicle capital

Passengers will travel on the automated buses with a member of staff on boardMore commuters in Edinburgh are expected to be using driverless vehicles than any other city in the world within a few months, government advisers say. Five automated buses are targeted to carry about 10,000 passengers a week between Fife and Edinburgh. The Scottish Science Advisory Council (SSAC), Scotland’s highest level advisory body for science, has forecast that Edinburgh will be a world leader in automated vehicles. Passengers will travel on the automated buses on roads at speeds of up to 50mph with a member of staff on board. The SSAC said the scheme would only be the start for an industry that could be worth £2.6 billion
