The Algarve club's chairman Luis Torres has now fired Davids and branded his reign ‘a disaster’, and distancing himself from the appointment earlier this year. Torres wrote in an open letter to the club’s fans: “The decision to appoint Edgar Davids was foisted on me by our sporting director. “Edgar Davids is someone with a rich history as a player, but that has nothing to do with his qualities as a coach.”A statement from the Algarve club added: “We have reached an agreement with Edgar Davids, and he is leaving his post as our coach. He only returned to football last year as assistant at Dutch club Telstar before his appointment in Portugal in January.
