The over-30 player hasn’t disappeared from the NHL completely but, owing to a variety of factors, his impact has been diminished. “There are still a lot of good 30-year-old players in the league,” said Canucks head coach Travis Green. Maybe younger players are coming in and, because of their training, they’re better than they used to be. But players who’ve been in the league longer understand what they have to do to stay in the league. The Oilers, of course, are led by 24-year-old Leon Draisaitl and 22-year-old Connor McDavid who are 1-2 in the NHL in scoring.
