Meanwhile, without any employment prospects, you now face soaring prices for essential items, including food prices escalating at unprecedented rates in a matter of weeks. That is the scenario many Afghans face, and a lack of access to food might be the greatest evidence of their suffering. Before the fall of Kabul on Aug. 15, 80 per cent of households here in Afghanistan struggled to feed themselves. Put another way, more Afghans face a state-of-emergency food crisis than ever before.
