EcoWaste Coalition calls out illicit sale of banned cosmetics 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Chito ChavezWith the 11.11 shopping bonanza getting underway on Monday, an environmental group urged online shopping platforms to initiate measures against the illicit sale of mercury-laced cosmetics banned by the health authorities. Quezon City-based EcoWaste Coalition asked out online shopping giants Lazada and Shopee to end the proliferation of advertisements by third party dealers of skin whitening products that are “hazardous to health” due to their high mercury content. “Removing such ads for health-damaging products and sending a strong warning against their dealers are the least that online shopping sites can do to protect their customers,” he added. “We advise online shoppers not to spend a peso for skin whitening cosmetics containing chemical poisons such as mercury that can cause serious health problems,” Dizon said.
