Ebay to buy Depop from Etsy in £890m cash deal in latest bid to woo younger customers

Ebay has agreed to buy secondhand fashion marketplace Depop from Etsy for around $1.2billion, or £890million, in cash. Online platform Etsy is offloading Depop just five years after it bought the British business for $1.6billion. The cash deal is expected to be completed by the middle of 2026 and will see Depop retain its name and branding. Ianonne said: 'We are confident that as part of eBay, Depop will be even more well-positioned for long-term growth, benefiting from our scale, complementary offerings, and operational capabilities'. It comes just months after Ebay bought another rival secondhand app, in a bid to appeal to younger shoppers.
