Albert Square legend June played Dot Cotton for more than 30 years over two stints, from 1985 to 1993 and 1997 to 2020. "I don't want a retainer for EastEnders, I've left. I've left EastEnders. But it hasn't dulled fans' enthusiasm, Dot topping a poll of the best ever British soap characters. From a poll of 2,000 fans, Dot edged out other EastEnders characters like the Mitchell brothers, as well as Peggy Mitchell, played by the late, great Dame Barbara Windsor.
