A priority zone for earthquake-prone buildings in Levin has been established. The area covers Levin's central business district, including Oxford St, from Devon St to Levin Adventure Park, part of Queen St, and part of Salisbury St. No priority areas have been identified for Foxton and Shannon. The council will have 2½ years to identify earthquake-prone buildings within the area, as buildings within the priority zone are not automatically deemed earthquake prone. This is part of its responsibilityMcLachlan said the decision on the priority area was made based on local knowledge and input from community members during consultation last year.
