Earthquake jolts northern Pakistan, Afghanistan mountain range


The USGS said the quake on Saturday had a depth of 101 kilometres. Peshawar: An earthquake has struck the Hindu Kush mountain range in Afghanistan and was strongly felt in northern Pakistan. The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 5.2, while Pakistan’s meteorological department said it was magnitude 5.9 with its epicentre in the Afghan mountain range. Northern Pakistan is on earthquake fault line. In 2005 a major earthquake caused massive damages in northern Pakistan and in the Pakistani part of the disputed Kashmir region, killing more than 70,000 people.
