The work of American photographers who experimented with photography on paper is the subject of a new exhibition at the Getty Museum. Paper Promises features rare 19th-century paper negatives and prints, and illustrates portraiture, landscapes and the emergence of photojournalism with stark images of the civil war, and runs until 27 May
