(CNN) The UK government is calling for calm amid the turmoil sparked by a vote to leave the European Union. Three leading heads of EU governments are now scrambling to come together on how to respond to the Brexit vote and will meet in the next few days. British Prime Minister David Cameron announced his decision to stand down on Friday -- and many are calling for a clear plan and timetable for the UK's exit from the 28-member EU. When markets opened Monday the British pound resumed its downward trajectory as global investors continued to digest the impact of the historic decision. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is also heading to Brussels for urgent meetings.
