Algeria and its proxy the Polisario have yet again tasted the bitter taste of diplomatic defeat as Morocco and the EU renew the agricultural agreement that covers products from the Sahara region. Right after the adoption of the agreement, the EU’s Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini paid a visit to Morocco where she was received Thursday by King Mohammed VI.reaffirmed the centrality of the partnership with Morocco. Had they thought that Morocco would relinquish its sovereignty over its southern provinces in talks with the EU? The answer to these questions reverberate loudly in the pro-separatist camp as they come to terms with the credibility of the Moroccan principled foreign policy. Federica Mogherini was clear in highlighting the EU’s non-recognition of the Polisario despite maneuvers by some African dictatorship in pushing for the participation of the Polisario in the up-coming EU-Africa summit.
