(OPride)—The top leaders of the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) remain locked in high-stakes crisis talks in the capital, Addis Ababa. The statement minced no words in underscoring the party is stuck in a rut. The EPRDF statement also alluded to the party’s recent byword: deep renewal promised back in 2016 after the protests in Oromia proved unresponsive to the usual security solutions. Noting that “deep renewal” was the correct antidote to the problem, it states that the deep renewal was not “deep” enough after all.
