History favours VillaAston Villa are the 12th team to return to the play-off final a year after losing one. In the 13 play-off finals featuring Brentford, Exeter City, Lincoln City, Sheffield United or Sunderland - none of these sides have won. In fact they even dropped out of the league for three seasons, returning a year ago after winning the National League promotion final at Wembley. Chelsea (1988), Wrexham (1989) and Cambridge United (1990) have now been waiting longer than 28 years since their last play-off final. Sunderland are slight favourites against Charlton Athletic in Sunday's League One play-off final.
