Some candidates locked out of their parties in bungled primaries have opted to run as independents, creating what is emerging as a third force. By sheer numbers, the independents form a formidable force and depending on the outcomes of the August elections, are likely to tilt the political equation. OVERSIGHTConsequently, Parliament has taken the cue and has begun to prepare itself for the possible entry of many independents. But the substantive point is that Parliament must re-assess its operations and begin to reorganise itself to align to the emerging realities. STANDING ORDERSIf their numbers permit, the independent candidates will make other demands and cause further reorganisation of Parliament and county assemblies.
