By EDITORIALMore by this AuthorThe Court of Appeal has brought to a sober conclusion a vexed debate about the declaration of results of the presidential votes. First, the matter was canvassed at the High Court in Nairobi, which ruled that the results announced at the constituency was final. But this was challenged by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, which argued it was only the chairman who had the constitutional mandate to declare results of presidential votes. Moreover, the IEBC argued that the national office ought to have powers to correct factual errors that may occur at constituency or county levels. Unless the IEBC goes to the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict, for now, the ruling stands.
