And President Uhuru Kenyatta seized the opportunity to announce an 18 per cent pay increase, four points below what the workers had wanted. The government’s Economic Survey, published a fortnight ago, reported 15 per cent job reductions last year. We back proposals for better pay for workers as they deserve a decent and dignified life.
