The government had a budget of Sh2.2 trillion for the current financial year. Precisely, that was the point Mr Rotich made to the MPs: An honest exposition of the state of the Treasury. The private sector has felt the heat with many listed firms issuing profit warnings and declaring redundancies to manage costs. It is incredible, though, that the budget deficits are largely caused by profligate spending, doubtful mega projects with least returns as well as poorly-thought-out populist initiatives.
